the circulation. Bile acid levels do not normally drop due to liver disease,
but if liver function is compromised, more bile acids appear in the blood.
The Bile Acids Profile will detect liver changes before the formation
of more advanced signs of illness. This early sensitivity is very important
because it allows for the possibility of treatment before irreversible damage
is done.
The test will not provide a definitive diagnosis, rather an early
confirmation that there is hepato-biliary deficiency. When jaundice becomes
apparent the benefits of the test decline as a diagnostic test. It can however
be used to monitor a response to treatment.
