DNA FRAGMENTATION OF SEMEN
DNA fragmentation levels are considered significantly more reliable than conventional semen measurements for count, motility and morphology in assessing male infertility. The 23 chromosomes in the sperm head are made up of chromatin, which consist of proteins and DNA. SCSA® measures the fragmentation of DNA.
The result is reported, showing the list of three statistical categories of fertility potential:
• Excellent fertility potential <15% DNA Fragmentation Index (DPI)
• Good to fair fertility potential 15 - 30% DPI
• Poorer fertility potential > 30% DPI
The statistically significant threshold for sub/infertility has been established at >30%.
