GROWTH HORMONE

Growth hormone (hGH), or somatotropin, is a hormone responsible for normal body growth and development by stimulating protein production in muscle cells and energy release from the breakdown of fats.

Growth Hormone tests are primarily used to investigate patients with symptoms of growth hormone abnormalities, other abnormal hormone test results, or to help evaluate pituitary function.

Growth Hormone is made by the pituitary gland and is needed for growth. The amount of Growth Hormone in the blood changes during the day and is affected by exercise, sleep, emotional stress, and diet. It plays an important role in how the body uses food for energy (metabolism).
