Yes. It will be addressed 'Strictly Private & Confidential' for your attention.
What does a HIV Saliva test involve?
We will send you a HIV saliva sample collection kit to your home. The HIV test sample can be taken in the privacy of your own home using the easy to follow instructions provided with the HIV saliva sample collection kit.
Once the HIV saliva sample has been taken it is posted to our private laboratory using the pre-paid package provided.

How will I be notified that the HIV test results are ready?
You will receive an email or SMS text message notifying you that new information has been uploaded to your secure online record. Alternatively, if you opt for one of our Medical Advisors to contact you by telephone, this will be how you are notified.
How do I receive the HIV test results?
Your HIV test results will be uploaded on to our secure servers for you to access. You will also be given an option of receiving them initially by telephone from one of our Medical Advisors.
Are the HIV test results confidential?
Yes. All results are confidential and are not disclosed to any person including your doctor without your prior written consent.
Will the HIV saliva test tell me if I have HIV?
No. This test does NOT provide a positive diagnostic result. It is used as a screening method only. It can state that there were no signs of HIV detected in your saliva sample, hence negative.
Alternatively the result will be expressed as 'reactive', which means that the presence of HIV in your saliva sample cannot be ruled out and you have a higher risk of being HIV positive. A 'reactive' result does not mean that you are HIV positive.
'Reactive' results must be followed up with a blood test to rule out or confirm HIV. These are available from MediChecks; however, under these circumstances we would advise that a follow up test is performed by your doctor.
What if my HIV test result is negative?
A negative result means that the HIV virus has not been detected in your sample, which probably means that you do not have HIV. But it can take up to 14 weeks to produce antibodies after infection with HIV. This is called a window period, during which the test could be negative even if the HIV virus is present.
How accurate is the HIV saliva test?
Extremely accurate if taken at 14+ weeks after exposure.
Is a HIV blood test more accurate than a HIV saliva test?
Yes. A HIV blood test is more accurate than a saliva test as it detects the presence of HIV within the blood.
What are the main types of HIV blood tests?
HIV 1 & 2 Antibody +p24 Antigen test - 98% accurate at 12 weeks after exposureHIV Proviral DNA - 99% accurate at 11 days after exposure

- How would you cope if the results are 'reactive'?
- What support do you have in place to cope with a 'reactive' result?
- Who will you tell about the test? (especially a partner)
- What are the implications, if any, for work?
- Do you need more time to consider the above?
