Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) testing is used to match patients and donors for bone marrow or cord blood transplants.
HLA antigens are proteins found on most cells in your body. Your immune system uses these proteins, or markers, to recognize which cells belong in your body and which do not.
A close match between a donor's HLA antigens and a patien's can reduce the risk that your immune cells will attack the donor's cells or that the donor's immune cells will attack the patient's body after the transplant.
Due to the complex nature of the test, costs involved and the many protocols surrounding screening and transplant procedures, we have also discussed and sought advice from The Anthony Nolan Trust with regards to the provision of this service.

We would recommend that people have this test done through the Anthony Nolan Trust. They will provide this test free of charge and by being on the worldwide database for unrelated bone marrow donor registries you will be benefiting other people who are in need of a donor.
