Huntington's disease is an hereditary disorder of the central nervous system caused by a faulty gene on chromosome 4. This gene is responsible for producing a protein called Huntingtin.
The defected gene results in the damaging of the nerve cells in the brain, including the the basal ganglia and cerebral cortex. Overtime this leads to gradual physical, mental and emotional changes.
Currently there is no cure for Huntington's disease; however there are ways to manage symptoms effectively.
