OESTRADIOL (BLOOD)

Oestrodial is a steroid hormone and a type of oestrogen. Oestrodial promotes the development and maintenance of female reproductive structures.

This includes the fat distribution, preparing the follicle in the ovary for the release of an egg, preparing for fertility and helping to maintain bone density.

There are three main types of oestrogen - oestrodial, oestrone and oestriol.

Oestrodial is the main oestrogen and accounts for 80%. It is secreted by the ovaries.

Oestrone is produced by the adrenal glands and oestriol is made primarily in the liver.

You may want this test to assess your oestrogen level if you have irregular, heavy, absent or painful periods, are unable to conceive or menopausal. Also refer to luteinising hormone, folical stimulating hormone, prolactin, testosterone and DHEA.

Tests are also grouped into specific profiles: Menopause Profile, Amenorrhoea Profile, Hormone Replacement Test and the Female Hormone Profile.
