PAUL BUNNELL

Infectious mononucleosis is an acute infectious disease due to the Epstein-Barr virus (human herpes virus 4). It usually occurs between the ages of 10 and 35. Symptoms include malaise, fever, sore throat, enlarged glands and occasionally, a rash. There is no specific treatment unless complications occur. Lethargy may continue for several months after the symptoms have subsided (as in other viral infections). It is thought that a number of individuals with M.E; Post Viral Fatigue Syndrome; Chronic Fatigue Syndrome begin with this (or other) viral infections.
