PNEUMONIA SCREEN

Atypical pneumonia refers to pneumonia caused by certain bacteria such as Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Chlamydia pneumoniae and Legionella pneumophila.

Mycoplasma pneumonia

Mycoplasma pneumonia is a milder form of pneumonia. It often affects younger people and can be associated with anaemia, rashes, meningitis, myelitis, and encephalitis.

Chlamydia pneumonia

Chlamydia pneumonia occurs all the year round and accounts for 5-15% of all pneumonias. It is usually mild.

Legionella pneumonia

Legionella pneumonia can be quite severe. It accounts for 2-6% of pneumonias and has a higher mortality rate.

If you have any acute symptoms you should contact your General Practitioner without delay.
