PROSTATIC ACID PHOSPHATASE

Prostatic Acid Phosphatase may be found in increased amounts in men who have metastasized prostate cancer. It was used to monitor and assess progression of prostate cancer until the introduction of prostate specific antigen (PSA)

This test is no longer used routinely to screen for prostate cancer. The availability of the more sensitive and specific PSA test has largely replaced it.
