SEMEN ANALYSIS
The single most important determinant of a man’s potential to be fertile lies in the production of sufficient numbers of motile, morphologically normal, genetically healthy sperm.

The longer a couple remains subfertile, the worse their chance would seem for a pregnancy, not least because of the time constraints on the woman’s biological clock. Prolonged, unprotected intercourse without pregnancy is not recommended without considering an initial evaluation of the male partner at the same time that investigations are initiated on the female. This prevents valuable time being wasted if there are complications. Moreover the process and information derived from a thorough semen analysis is rapid, non-invasive, and cost-effective.
Most cases of male infertility are due to poor semen parameters. There are many factors that can lead to impaired semen quality – such as injury, infection, varicocoele, obstruction, genetic defects, erectile and ejaculatory dysfunction, hormonal imbalances, medical conditions and environmental and lifestyle factors. Whatever the cause, the most important part of the management of male infertility comes from a correct diagnosis.
Range of tests may vary depending on laboratory used for analysis.
